Cedarcreek Covenant Church was started for the purpose of
BUILDING LIFE-CHANGING RELATIONSHIPS WITH GOD, ONE ANOTHER AND THE WORLD.
Cedarcreek is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
We are a welcoming community of faith which values:
-The need for a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.
-The Bible as the final authority on what we believe and how we live.
-The whole mission of the church to love God, to love our neighbors and to make disciples.
-The church as a grace-filled community of Christ-followers who help one another grow.
-A conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit, who lives within us and enables our obedience to God.
-Freedom to respect differing styles and opinions in matters not essential to core Christian principles.
In essentials- agreement | In non-essentials- freedom | In all things love
We are part of a larger group of churches called The Evangelical Covenant Church of America.

Life101 (7th-12th graders)
Every Sunday night from 6:00-8:00, the Middle, Junior and High school students of the church get together to explore what it means to live a life of faith.
What are practical steps that we can do to follow Jesus? How can we worship God? Why doesn't God do anything about the pain and suffering that I see in the world? What does the Bible say about music, love, sin, life-after-death, or sex? Why should I follow Jesus? We'll be learning together as we eat, fellowship, play, study, serve, worship, question, and discuss.
You don't have to know a whole lot about the Bible - we are all at different places in our faith and our understanding and we'll help each other to learn and grow. We're in this together!
Come - anyone in grades 7-12 is welcome! (and so are volunteers) We look forward to getting to know you.
HYPE (For students in grades 3-6)
On Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00, our HYPE group meets in the Upper Room at the church office. Anyone in grades 3-6 is welcome! We come together to play some crazy games, sing some songs, eat some food and learn more about Jesus together. Be prepared to have a good time and be sure to invite your friends. We hope to see you there!

What should I wear?
You'll find people at Cedarcreek wearing everything from jeans and T-shirts to dresses and dress pants. Most folks on any given Sunday morning lean toward the comfortable and casual. Wear what you feel comfortable in. We meet in an elementary school gym so our atmosphere is pretty casual.
Will I be singled out as a visitor?
No. We have a welcome center just inside the door where you can pick up a program for the morning and fill out a name tag if you choose. Some folks wear them and some don't. The folks at the welcome table will greet you and introduce themselves. They can also answer any other questions you might have at that time.
Once worship begins, we do take a couple minutes to greet other folks seated around us. This usually happens about 10 minutes after we start and typically it is just enough time to shake the hands of a few others seated close to you and say hello.
Are you going to collect my personal information?
At Cedarcreek we have what we call a contact card inserted in our program. This is a card that you can choose to fill out to let us know you visited us. It also provides a way for you to tell us how we can pray for you or possibly answer any other questions you might have. You can be as detailed as you like in completing it or you can choose not to fill it out at all. The bottom line is you don't get signed up for mailers or free sets of knives by filling out these cards! If it's your first time visiting us, you will simply receive a quick follow up phone call later in the week to thank you for visiting us and invite you back again. That's it.
What happens if I get there a bit early?
Each Sunday morning, we have coffee service and food table set up in the welcome center area. Some folks enjoy getting there a bit early to have a little more breakfast, enjoy a cup of coffee and chat before worship begins. So, grab some coffee and a muffin and make yourself at home. There is also a childrens table in the welcome area for your kids to color and use stickers to make their own special name tags before worship begins.
Will I know what to do?
Well, we don't have any secret codes or anything! As we said above, when you arrive you'll receive a program for the morning at the welcome center. It outlines what will be happening during worship so youll be able to see what is coming next.
Do I have to sing?
Singing is part of our worship together at Cedarcreek. Our worship band does a great job of leading us and making it comfortable to sing along or even just listen. The words are printed on a large screen at the front and the drums, guitars and excellent vocalists make it easy to pick up the tunes. So, you can sing or just enjoy listening as part of the experience. Either way is fine.
Will I be expected to give money?
Part of our worship time at Cedarcreek is called an offering. This is a point where we provide everyone the opportunity to recognize that everything we have comes from God in the first place and we are able to offer part of it back to him. Typically we do this in the form of our finances as a way of saying thanks to God for what He has given us. Everyone does this in a different way. At Cedarcreek we pass baskets down the rows and each person or family is able to give their offering as they wish. Not everyone gives every Sunday and no one is looking to see what you put in! You are free to decide for yourself as the basket goes by.
Other questions?

Video Camera Wanted.
In Life101 and HYPE this year, we are walking through the story of the Bible together in chronological order, to better understand the big picture of Gods story in the world, and to understand how our lives are connected to His story. After listening to the stories together, we will be engaging in a variety of creative expressions to retell the story: painting, photography, drama, shadow acting, and sculpting, just to name a few. Wed like to be able to capture our retellings on film so that at the end of the year, we can look back and watch our creative version of Gods story. So, we are looking for someone willing to donate a video camera to the Cedarcreek Youth groups. This is a great opportunity to help us to learn and remember together. A digital video camera that can connect to a computer for editing purposes is preferred. Please contact Eric (eric_cedarcreekcovenant.org) if you would like to help us out in this way!
Get Your Group On
Small groups are an important and vital way to be connected at Cedarcreek. It is a great opportunity to gather, study and get to know others in our church. We are getting ready to launch our 2010-11 season of Small groups and we need you! We need Leaders, Co-Leaders and Hosts for this fall. Sign-ups will start in September and Groups will begin to meet at the end of September / early October. If you are interested please contact Rob Talbert [e-mail dctalbert2004_comcast.net or call 206-218-9487].
Hiking, Hobbits and Pizza OH MY.
Mark your Calendars and join us on Sunday afternoon Sept 26 for an easy hike at Federation Forest State Park where we might come across a hobbit village. Family and friends welcome. Plan a stop for pizza following the hike. Linda Shewey will provide details as the time approaches.
Community Spotlight + Our Kiddos and Teachers
If you are still reading the E*News..kudos to you. As I am sure you know it is back to school for the children in our congregation as well as several members of our congregation who are teachers and school administration. Please spend some extra time this week praying for this back to school season.
